Frequently asked questions

Who’s covered by Governor Liability Insurance?

Our education policy package protects senior members of staff as well as governors, whereas this isn’t always the case with some insurers.

If the school was subject to a fire, how long do I need business interruption cover for?

We recommend a minimum of 24 months cover initially. This allows for the practicalities in the instance of rebuilding.

Why is it important that I have adequate limits under my policy?

An adequate sum insured is required for property to rebuild all the premises in the event of total destruction caused by an insured peril. In respect of contents and computers, the figures need to be adequate to replace all items in the event of a loss. Underinsurance could mean that insurers are only liable for a proportion of any claim, even for a partial loss. The limits under the Employers, Public and Governors Liabilities should be set correctly to ensure that, in the event of a catastrophe, they’re adequate to pay any claimant in full.

What information does a school need to provide to obtain a quotation?

For us to provide you with an accurate quotation, we ask that you complete our tailored questionnaire and provide a plan or site map of your school upon request.

Case study

An independent school in Suffolk was hit by lightning. Most of their communication and computer equipment were either damaged or destroyed.

Clear were advised of the incident on the day of its occurrence. Although it took almost a month for the school to provide full details, including estimates for replacement of the equipment, Clear didn’t wait to act and advised insurers immediately. The equipment was replaced quickly. We sent over the information on the day it was received and authorised replacements for the damaged or destroyed equipment within just four working days. The insurer issued the school a cheque shortly after the invoices were sent by the school.
